The Philosophy behind the Republic Of Conscience:
Independently conceived, yet recognizing and deeply honouring Seamus Heaney’s Poem “From the Republic Of Conscience”, Philip McMaster, co-founder of the World Sustainability Organization, World Sustainability Project and first citizen of the world-wide Republic Of Conscience created the “Mindful People’s Republic” to inspire others to move forward on their dreams.
McMaster wondered:
Why do we create groups, tribes, kingdoms, nations? For the benefit of the local inhabitants. Moral leadership and allocation of resources to enrich the society as a whole. At least that’s the theory.
In our globalized world, we have devolved to worshiping money, fighting over and hoarding resources, our “leadership” is mostly concerned with self-interest while the number of human animals is accelerating out of control and rapidly depleting the resources of our home – the ONE and ONLY, Lonely Planet Earth.
This situation is clearly unsustainable.
…Enter the Republic Of Conscience.
There’s a need for a “beyond-human-imagined-and-created-borders”, a “supra-national/subnational” entity that is freely open to every human animal on the Earth, complimentary to, but not tied to the many religious beliefs shared by humans… a “state of mind” that is supportive of, but not controlled by political ideologies, and not through threat or violence. A place of ideas, creativity, exchange, employment, support, learning, laughing and living a Lifestyle Of Health, Happiness And Sustainability (LOHHAS).
The Republic Of Conscience emerges at a time when the world is waking up… to surveillance, deception, oppression, manipulation and mindless, zombie-like consumption.
The Basic MISSION
The basic mission of the Republic Of Conscience is to prepare citizens of the world for a Lifestyle Of Health, Happiness And Sustainability (LOHHAS) regardless of what the climate, economy and social conditions of the future hold.
The Republic Of Conscience represents the light of transparency, honesty and care in all things.

When I landed in the republic of conscience
it was so noiseless when the engines stopped
I could hear a curlew high above the runway.
At immigration, the clerk was an old man
who produced a wallet from his homespun coat
and showed me a photograph of my grandfather.
The woman in customs asked me to declare
the words of our traditional cures and charms
to heal dumbness and avert the evil eye.
No porters. No interpreter. No taxi.
You carried your own burden and very soon
your symptoms of creeping privilege disappeared.
Fog is a dreaded omen there but lightning
spells universal good and parents hang
swaddled infants in trees during thunderstorms.
Salt is their precious mineral. And seashells
are held to the ear during births and funerals.
The base of all inks and pigments is seawater.
Their sacred symbol is a stylized boat.
The sail is an ear, the mast a sloping pen,
the hull a mouth-shape, the keel an open eye.
At their inauguration, public leaders
must swear to uphold unwritten law and weep
to atone for their presumption to hold office –
and to affirm their faith that all life sprang
from salt in tears which the sky-god wept
after he dreamt his solitude was endless.
I came back from that frugal republic
with my two arms the one length, the customs
woman having insisted my allowance was myself.
The old man rose and gazed into my face
and said that was official recognition
that I was now a dual citizen.
He therefore desired me when I got home
to consider myself a representative
and to speak on their behalf in my own tongue.
Their embassies, he said, were everywhere
but operated independently
and no ambassador would ever be relieved.
